Artist Biography

I've crocheted since I was very little, but only in recent years have I ventured into three-dimensional pieces.  I started to really getting into crochet and even taught myself to knit when I first moved away from home.  At that point, most of the yarn I had was scraps of odd colors from times long gone, and most of the pieces I did were scarves in odd patterns and the color combinations were even more odd.  After that, I made purses for concerts and friends.  Then, while I studied in Europe, I decided, I needed some new gloves so I made them. Someone suggested making hats a few months ago, and the rest is history.  There's just something about crochet that makes it doable in so many places -- while watching TV, on the bus or train, and you can take hooks and needles on planes with you.. that says a lot in today's airport security society.

About the Pieces

The pieces here on GrannysJunk.com are made with Red Heart and some Zayres brand yarn.  The hats seem to work well in the neutral colors from the 70's, but the purses and gloves are more fun in funky colors.  Everything matches black, though, except navy, but who wears that nowadays?  The gloves were definitely something I wanted to create while I spent my first spring break (and possibly last?) of my school days on a vacation, doing absolutely nothing but watching TV, lounging, some sight seeing, but mostly nothing.  They were such a hit that I made another set of them to fit my hands perfectly, but with slight differences modeled after gloves I had seen in the market in France... they had a cover that could be taken off so the bare fingers could be utilized.  I made two pairs and sent them to the States from France to aid in a fundraiser for a fellow bicyclist who was hit by someone who left the scene and didn't have health insurance.
